Can you help police identify a pedestrian involved in a ‘road rage’ complaint?

Police need to speak to a woman who is accused of punching a passenger in a car, and if you recognize the suspect and her colourful shoes, you can help.

Coquitlam RCMP began their investigation on July 4, 2020, at about 8:15 p.m., when two women got into an altercation at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam.

The complainant was a passenger in a car when she says two female pedestrians gave her the finger. One of those young women allegedly punched the complainant through an open window, says Corporal Michael McLaughlin. Obviously we’re only getting one side of this story. We’d like to speak to the two other women who were involved in this file or any witness who saw this event or recognizes the suspect.

The complainant took a photo of the suspect as she ran away, and while the suspect’s back is to the camera, some important details were observed. She’s described as: 

• A possibly Caucasian female of medium height,
• Appears to be in her late teens, 
• Long blonde hair, with dark roots, worn in a high ponytail,
• Wearing a pair of yellow, red and black Nike Jordan AJ1 Mids, tight grey shorts and a tight, long-sleeved black top.

Angry confrontations on roadways are a common complaint to police. Here are some tips on avoiding them:

• Avoid escalating: Don’t roll down your windows or get out of your car to continue an argument, 
• Exercise compassion: Many people are stressed, or just unreasonable, and may lash out. Try to be empathetic, be the bigger person, and drive (or walk) away,
• Drive safely: Aggressive driving often starts confrontations. Slow down, drive more safely, and never use your vehicle to intimidate someone,
• Call police: If anyone starts crossing the line and someone’s physical safety might be threatened, call 911 right away.
