2020 Junior Mountie Police Academy postponed indefinitely due to Covid-19
2020-04-29 09:35 PDT
With ongoing concerns and directives around large gatherings of people, the Coquitlam RCMP has decided to indefinitely postpone the 2020 Junior Mountie Police Academy (JMPA).
The JMPA has been active for a week in August for 9 consecutive years. It typically involves about 100 youth and dozens of police officers and emergency services employees and is not practical in an era of social distancing. Since the JMPA requires months of planning and organization, it must be postponed until social distancing measures for large gatherings are declared completely safe.
We sincerely apologize to the youth who were looking forward to be part of the 2020 JMPA. We want to you to know that the Coquitlam RCMP is committed to restarting the JMPA next summer.
We also promise that the 10th anniversary edition, whenever it happens, will be a special event.
