On March 14, 2020, at approximately 11:11 a.m., Coquitlam RCMP received a 911 call regarding a capsized boat on Pitt River south of Monroe Creek. A good Samaritan boater who happened to be on the river assisted in rescuing 3 adult survivors who were taken to local hospitals with hypothermia, shock and anxiety. One adult female was recovered deceased and one adult male age 25 remains missing.

Search and Rescue were called out to assist. The RCMP Dive Team has been activated to locate the missing male. Weather at the time was extremely windy creating large waves with swells and whitecaps which is believed to be a contributing factor in the capsizing of the vessel. Alcohol and drugs are not factors. The boat has been located and will be seized as evidence as part of the investigation.
